APRIL MOON & FRIENDS

We team up with April Moon for a huge serving of Americana-adjacent sonic goodness at Future Yard on Sunday 11th May, the ‘Canadiana’ duo joined on the day in Birkenhead by Skylarks, Leanne Brumfitt, Only Child and The John Street Revival.

April Moon’s fun, whimsical songwriting style fuses genres, weaving effortlessly from alt-country and Americana to folksy blues and rock although their latest singles and full-length album, 2022’s The Other One Was You definitely leans towards the sounds of their more rootsy upbringing. They call it ‘Canadiana’ – think Americana, but with a big helping of northern charm that oozes through their style of kooky storytelling and lyrics, creating a vivid, sunshine-filled world that covers everything from love, scandal and divorce to life on the prairies, living in an abandoned brewery, cow autopsies, and the nomad life.

Alan O’Hare’s eclectic ensemble play emotional music, with an emphasis on storytelling. Built from folk roots, with the sounds of acoustic guitar and fiddle dominating, the music has been compared to The Waterboys, Van Morrison and Dexys. Only Child have released four critically acclaimed albums and three EPs since 2012. “”Doesn’t so much tug on the heartstrings as yank them almost out… “.

Cheshire based Country singer-songwriter Leanne Brumfitt burst onto the scene in early 2023 and has currently released five very well received singles – ‘Work of Art’ ‘Devil Behind Your Eyes’ ‘Because of You’ ‘Magic’ and ‘Sugar & Spice’ have followed, with a debut EP ‘Lessons’ released in March. She currently performs a whole host of shows around the UK and plans to continue gracing stages across the country with her powerful vocals and gripping storytelling.

An alt-Americana-inspired, road-trip of a band, The John Street Revival are a five piece described as “having a sound that belies their roots – good – natured heartland rock, raw Americana with infectious hooks and freewheeling melodies”.
