Bodega | Future Yard Birkenhead | Future Yard

Sometimes a special show comes round that you simply can’t wait to get the word out for. This is one of them.

We’re ecstatic to announce that, in support of their new album Broken Equipment, the Brooklyn art-rock unit BODEGA will be joining us at Future Yard in March 2022. With wild minimalism and laughing wit, they have revitalised the rock and roll vocabulary with their previous two albums, under the influence of post punk, hip hop, kraut rock, continental philosophy, arthouse cinema and folk-derived narrative songwriting. With Broken Equipment,  this vocabulary is set to expand even more so, BODEGA  interrogating the external factors that make them who they are in the album, done so with tongue-in-cheek humour, highly personal lyrics, and irresistible grooves.

Since BODEGA’s formation in 2016, founders Ben and Nikki have experienced a rare meteoric rise. But when the pandemic forced them to hit pause, they used the opportunity to regroup with drummer/performance artist Tai Lee, bassist/philosophy professor Adam See, and lead guitarist Dan Ryan. Broken Equipment was produced by Ben himself with Bobby Lewis, BODEGA’s NYC live sound mixer. It’s an album inspired by a book club where, in the early months of 2020, the group gathered together with close friends to study the works of a wide range of philosophers. Passionate debates lasting long in the night  became a regular occurrence there, motivating the band to become as ideologically unified as the weighty tomes they were reading  and ultimately inspiring an album that is as much about present-day New York City as it is an introspective look at the band member’s lives there.

Before listening to their new album, remind yourself just how good Bodega are with this live performance of some of the highlights from their first album…
