Cosmo Sheldrake | Future Yard

POP29 - Climate Carnival

We’re overjoyed to welcome Cosmo Sheldrake to Future Yard, headlining our POP29 Climate Carnival event. The English multi-instrumentalist and composer channels a joy of nature into his music, using field recordings to create highly entertaining pop, jazz and electronica. His new album, Eye To The Ear was released on April 12th 2024.

Tickets on sale now.

Cosmo is a UK-based multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, live improviser and field recordist. His music ranges widely from celebratory anthems to soulful elegies and riotous party numbers, from sparse electronic production to haunting polyphonic songs that have grown out of field recordings of birds, whales, fish, frogs, fungi and more. Running through all his work is a belief that the living world is a noisy and musical place with the power to change how we think, feel and imagine. Together with his human and non-human collaborators, Cosmo creates music that speaks to the urgency and possibility of our times.

Cosmo has toured internationally with sold-out headline shows across North America, Europe, and Japan. He has composed music for both film and theatre and, in 2015, ran a community choir in Brighton, UK. Together with his brother Merlin, he runs a business selling live, fermented hot sauce.

In 2020, he released Wake Up Calls on his label Tardigrade Records, featuring tracks composed entirely from recordings of endangered British birds. In 2023, Cosmo released Wild Wet World, an EP that is an homage to the ocean.

POP 29

POP29 is Future Yard’s biennial Climate Symposium; a day of debate, performance, celebration and dialogue as we explore how the DIY music sector is responding to the climate emergency.

POP29 will explore the power of music in the climate debate and the impact of live touring, while shining a focus on emerging collective action in the creative space.

Taking place during the COP Climate Conference, this daytime event will feature a series of workshops exploring how various venues, businesses and musicians navigate sustainability, audience engagement, developing networks and the climate crisis as a whole. People in attendance will range from local artists and businesses passionate about sustainability, to representatives from nationally significant arts organisations.

Tickets to POP29 are free, but must be registered in advance. This event is ticketed separately to Cosmo Sheldrake’s headline live show.
