FUJAZZI feat Tetes De Pois+ BOP KABALLA + MOTORMOUF (SPECIAL GUEST) + ANTI SOCIAL JAZZ CLUB DJs
Music Venue Trust + The National Lottery = The Revive Live Tours
FUJAZZI is back! After the success of the first show back in November we continue our exploration into the the outer edges of jazz. Existing at the point where jazz meets dance, hip hop, electronica and rock, FUJAZZI is a regular night that will bring together Merseyside’s thriving community of experimental musicians and the wider international scene of modern jazz-inflected musicians. This will include live shows and DJ sets, with our house band inviting down guest performers and MCs on wide-reaching jam sessions.
This event is being supported by the #ReviveLive campaign from Music Venue Trust, which is supported by The National Lottery. The campaign is encouraging people to get back to enjoying live music with their friends in January, after the devastating impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the live industry. So, everyone who buys a ticket to this show is invited to bring a guest as a plus one for free! See details below on ticketing.
For our second FUJAZZI show on Friday 28th January we’re thrilled to be hosting Têtes De Pois, a seven-piece cinematic jazz outfit forged in the fires of the Leeds late-night DIY scene. Evolving away from the dancefloor and into a more reflective and spiritual unit, their music is still jam-packed with grooves inspired by the very best West African and South American movers and shakers.
Our FUJAZZI house band Bop Kabbala can play anything, jamming around the intersection of psych, jazz and trip hop. Their open-minded approach to music is indicative of the night’s ethos, and they’ll be inviting special guests along to each event to take their jams in different directions. Expect to see horn players, MCs, DJs and a variety of instrumentalists filling the guest slots, as Bop Kabbala stretch the boundaries of what we think of as jazz.
Our special guest this time round is Motormouf, the Rubber Dub MC produces a unique form of Galactic Hip-Hop, set to be amplified by the jamming’s of Bop Kabbala’s on-stage with him.
Anti Social Jazz Club is a great fit for FUJAZZI, sharing with us a desire to champion jazz and its connected genres from around the world through creative improvisation. ASJC will be regular collaborators on FUJAZZI live events, bringing their talents to the decks for vinyl only sets of cutting-edge jazz, from the classic to the contemporary.

Music Venue Trust has teamed up with The National Lottery to help to #ReviveLive music in grassroots music venues across the UK this January with a fantastic line up of tours, one-off events and special performances. And it’s all about bringing friends and communities back together.
The National Lottery is supporting artists and crews to get out playing grassroots music venues in front of audiences… back where they are meant to be!
But live music venues aren’t just about the shows. Live music is about bringing people together, celebrating that moment, that band, that song, together.
MVT and The National Lottery want to invite you to create new moments of shared experience with your family, friends and communities, because we understand the important role music plays in bringing people together. So for every National Lottery Revive Live Tour event, we are inviting every ticket holder to bring a plus one FOR FREE!
Who is the person you have missed going to gigs with the most? Who is the person you want to celebrate the return of live music with? Secure your ticket and let us know on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtags #ReviveLive and #ComeTogether.
Têtes de Pois
Têtes de Pois is a seven-piece instrumental jazz fusion outfit based in Leeds, UK. Forming at Leeds College of Music, the group earned its stripes playing DIY warehouse events and house parties.
2018 saw the release of the band’s debut EP Framework and significant touring as well as some early steps on to the UK festival scene. Described as cinematic jazz fusion, the record’s intention was to be more refined than the spirited live sets while maintaining the same energy and character. Framework takes clear inspiration from the international jazz canon; its instrumentation and harmony is well rooted in the band members’ studies. Latin and Afrobeat rhythms are also prominent, showing respect for timeless greats such as Airto Moreira and Fela Kuti. The influence of current British musicians is also evident including Shabaka Hutchings and Nubiyan Twist.
Since releasing Framework, Têtes de Pois have toured the UK extensively and have performed at some of the country’s best loved festivals, including Greenman, Shambala and We Out Here, with a live set that features extensive improvisation + atmospheric and emotive harmony and horn arrangements.
Motormouf is a hip hop hippy who travels the galaxy armed with a loop pedal, a microphone, quick fire lyrics and dizzying flows. He stops off at Birkenhead for as a special guest collaborating with house band Bop Kaballa after previously performing on the stage with Rubber Dub, the funk/jazz/psych fusion outfit he regularly performs with.
