Junior Brother
+ HANK BEE (+ KLOF ENSEMBLE) + EUAN BLACKMANThis Spring, alt-folk Irish star Junior Brother stops by Birkenhead, bringing his wonderfully idiosyncratic lyricism along for the ride. Creating music both excitingly forward-looking and anciently evocative, Junior Brother’s (aka Ronan Kealey) strange stories unfold with reckless abandon upon a distinctive guitar and foot tambourine accompaniment, influenced as much by the avant-garde as music from the Middle Ages and his home place in rural Ireland. He joins us on Tuesday 18th April in support of his 2022 album The Great Irish Famine.
Support comes from Hank Bee with Klof Ensemble and Euan Blackman.

The Great Irish Famine leaps boldly forward into an exciting new chapter for Ronan, and into a shaken new world – staggeringly profound, brutally beautiful in its epic sweep. “I was very conscious to bring each element of the debut into this follow-up, but dramatically dig ten times deeper and stretch ten times further down into each avenue” explains Junior Brother. Both startlingly dynamic and profoundly accomplished, The Great Irish Famine reflects fall-out of trauma both personal and universal, national and international, minor and mountainous, historic and contemporary – all uncompromisingly conveyed through the magnetic, emotionally potent vision of a one-of-a-kind artist at the top of his game.
"[An] unfiltered acoustic mix of neuroses, loss of innocence and religious oppression...Truly unforgettable" - Mojo

EUAN BLACKMAN

alt folk for kind folk.
Euan Blackman crafts introspective and evergreen songs for rainy road trips with wistful gazes. There is something of the past in his music, not retrospect, but memories we all share, tales of the human condition in soft focus. He is regularly enchanted by the magic that defines the work of Phoebe Bridgers and Claude Debussy. These influences that span ages and continents, come together behind his pastel blue bedroom door. Euan Blackman’s music is just starting out, but it feels like you’ve known him for some time.
As an independent artist, Euan has built a loyal audience of fans on TikTok where he has over 21k followers and over 1 million likes. His music has been praised by some of his heroes including acclaimed folk artist Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Radio 1’s Jack Saunders and Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda. He’s been featured in Spotify editorial playlists New Music Friday UK and Lost In The Woods, and has been supported by Radio X, BBC Introducing and Dirty Hit. His single HIGHHIGHHIGH reached over 50,000 streams independently and was pressed to vinyl for Flying Vinyl.
As a live act Euan has performed at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Cavern Club and a BBC Introducing live session. He has also performed at festivals including Moseley Folk Festival, Lakefest, El Dorado and Black Deer Festival.
