Brand New Selectors
WEDNESDAYS 25.05 – 15.06
Fancy yourself as a selector but you’re not yet comfortable on the decks? Or if you know the basics of DJing already but want to improve and play a set at Future Yard, Brand New Selectors could just be the break you’ve been waiting for.
On a succession of Wednesday evenings, we’re going to be running some guided DJ workshops and bookable DJ sets, suitable for complete beginners and experts alike, including specific sessions for under-18s. Teaming up with great, experienced selectors Lupini and Queensway, we’re offering the chance for would-be superstar DJs to come along and learn the ropes in a safe and welcoming environment.
For four weeks on Wednesdays between 25th May and 15th June, we’ll be holding workshops in our Future Yard studios for those who want to master the art of DJing and do some experimenting in a private space. Workshops will start with a very short intro into the basics of DJing, and by the end of the five weeks you’ll be playing out live. No previous experience is needed, the sessions are suitable for total beginners and those who’ve already got a handle on some of the basics! We’ll cover the basics of using CDJs and mixers, beatmatching and EQing in the sessions, with the aim of getting you up to speed to play a live set.
Studio-based workshops run from 5pm to 8pm, and attendees are encouraged to sign up for all four weeks. Specific workshops for under-18s are held between 5pm and 6pm. We recommend that people bring a set of tunes in MP3 format with them on a USB stick. But if you can’t do this or don’t know how, then that’s not a problem as it’s something the course will cover if necessary.
From 8pm after the workshops, we’ll be opening up the decks in our loft DJ booth for bookable 1-hour sessions. These are open to experienced players who want to get involved at Future Yard, and beginners who fancy testing their new skills out in the live environment. There will be three 1-hour slots each Wednesday, and they will need to be booked in advance.
