Birkenhead United Kingdom
What is Future Yard?
Birkenhead. A small shipbuilding town on the banks of the River Mersey, nestled on a strip of land called the Wirral, tucked between Liverpool and North Wales. The town that time forgot.
Future Yard Festival is the first step on our journey towards a new music future for Birkenhead. The festival will present some of todays most exceptional and essential national and international artists – alongside the most exciting new local talent – within Birkenhead’s beautiful iconic spaces.
Welcome one, welcome all; to weird, wonderful Wirral.
We populated the world’s oceans with great liners. We also populated the world’s radio waves and stages with some of the most fabulous and gloriously eccentric music you’ve heard; Bill Ryder-Jones, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Half Man Half Biscuit, Elvis Costello, The Coral, Forest Swords, Evian Christ, Hooton Tennis Club, Queen Zee, Zuzu… We could go on. John Peel – our most famous Wirral son – shaped the music landscape as we all know it today.
But, here’s the issue; there is not a single music venue or festival dedicated to celebrating new music in Birkenhead. For a place with music in its DNA, this is a missed opportunity. Not only that, but it is depriving the would-be music makers of tomorrow and the music lovers of today.
Future Yard is here to change that.
