Future Yard and MusicFutures present
Carbon Literacy for the creative industries

Future Yard and MusicFutures have teamed up to create a new Carbon Literacy course, placing an internationally-renowned qualification into the local context of the Liverpool creative industries. Through the support of MusicFutures, the first 100 participants from the Liverpool City Region will access the course for free.

MusicFutures is a research and business innovation programme funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and led by the University of Liverpool in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, to position the Liverpool City Region as a global hub for music research, development and innovation.

Our sustainability work, powered by Ecotricity Business, utilises the power of music and creativity to create impactful climate action – from campaigning for public transport to pioneering green energy and beyond.

But the climate crisis, and its impacts which increasingly are experienced in Liverpool, cannot be solved by any one person, business or organisation. Everyone has a part to play.

Carbon Literacy is an international, UN-recognised qualification designed to empower professionals and organisations to drive impactful climate action. Our Carbon Literacy course – delivered over one day – empowers you to…

  • Understand the foundations of climate science, the impacts of climate change, local and global policy, and the context of the creative industries and venue impacts
  • Apply carbon accounting principles to your organisation and the real world
  • Reduce your climate impact and make meaningful changes in personal and professional environments
  • Lead climate initiatives and embed sustainability within your organisation
  • Develop an actionable and evidence-based plan for climate action

It doesn’t just end with a certificate. Taking part in this project connects you with a network of 100 creative professionals and organisations in the Liverpool City Region, and provides the tools, methods and knowledge to transform climate action locally.

Carbon Literacy is more than just a sustainability credential – it’s the foundation of a cultural shift. It helps individuals, organisations and localities move from concern and confusion to coordinated action. By embedding climate-conscious decision-making through actions, Carbon Literacy training creates organisational capacity to drive positive change.

It’s not about sacrifice; it’s about innovation, creativity and shaping a low-carbon society where communities and economies thrive.

Secure your place while spots are still available.
