The Quarkness – The Spirit of Hawkwind
+Performing classic tracks from Hawkwind’s golden age, The Quarkness is a new venture for some very experienced musicians!
The band features Karl Benson (from Half Man Half Biscuit) on guitar and vocals, Roddie Gilliard (from renowned Zappa interpreters The Muffin Men) on keys and synthesisers, Mandy Bruce ( from pioneering all-female punks The Iconoclasts, and later The Slingbacks and Scorpio Rising) on bass and vocals, and “Spekki Sarah Lucas” (also from The Iconoclasts) on drums.
Visuals are always a major feature of any Hawkwind show and, with that in mind, The Quarkness are working in tandem with Zenjen Lighting, who have provided lights and projections for the likes of Space Ritual and Hawklords, as well as many spacerock/psychedelia festivals throughout the UK.
Following their packed-out debut at Birkenhead’s Molly’s Chambers in May, and a series of club and festival dates through the summer, The Quarkness now bring The Spirit Of Hawkwind to Future Yard on 21st December for a mind-blowing Winter Solstice special!

Made hot and fresh in-house each day, our pizzas use the best ingredients sourced from independent suppliers in Merseyside and beyond. The result is a classic Italian pizza handcrafted in Birkenhead, with a tasty new twist.

- Kitchen is open 5-9pm on Fridays + Saturdays, plus all show days

VENUE INFO
Future Yard is open every day from 10am – so you can stop by for a coffee or a pre-show drink in our bar area whenever you like. Our pizza kitchen is open on weekends and before every gig, 5-9pm.
The live room doors open at 7:30pm (this is separate from our bar area), and music starts shortly after. The bar is open after the show.
