What is the benefit of group instrumental lessons over traditional individual lessons?
Band Club lessons take the format of a group instrumental lesson. From the first instrumental lesson, young people experience what it is like to create something together. They discover that each instrument has an important role to play. As they learn, Band Club’s students realise that great music isn’t about individual performances, it’s about everyone working together.
Learning in a band setting gives every new skill an immediate purpose, young people get to put what they have learned into practice. Each rehearsal is full of moments where things click into place, confidence grows and the group takes another step forward together.
At Band Clubs, young people begin to experience what being a musician is really all about. Playing in a band introduces young people to the excitement of rehearsing towards a performance. Young people in band clubs are given the opportunity to perform together on the Future Yard stage, this experience develops confidence and teamwork in a way individual lessons could not offer.
Most importantly, being in a band is fun. It’s energetic, collaborative and full of those unforgettable moments when everyone finds the groove together. It’s those moments that inspire children to keep learning, keep practicing and keep coming back each week.
What is the difference between Band Clubs + New Noise?
No experience is needed to join Band Clubs, but New Noise participants are expected to know the basics (for example how to play a few basic chords/ play a basic beat).
New Noise is for about exploring music, creativity and finding your place in a community of young musicians. Band Clubs are about developing your musicianship by playing in a band every week and building towards performing live.
The two programmes work brilliantly alongside each other. New Noise includes collaborative music-making and band-based projects, but its focus is on creativity, exploration and developing as an artist. Band Clubs provide more structured, instrument-specific guidance and regular rehearsal, giving young musicians the chance to develop their skills as part of a band. Many young people choose to take part in both, using New Noise to broaden their creativity and Band Clubs to grow as confident, capable performers.
