BIG UNIT AGRICULTURAL REGIME
Encompassing caustic soda enthusiasts, those fond of seafood decisions, Botswanan upholsterers and quilted mercenaries, the Big Unit Agricultural Regime is a broad church; writing, recording, and occasionally even performing songs that speak of Cymru, light entertainers, hangovers, and a vehement hatred of both racists and Top Gear types.
Debut album ‘Love Letters from the Brink of Socialism’ was released in Summer 2024, on Link2Wales Records. Longlisted for the annual Welsh Music Prize, and named the Club Shipwrecked album of 2024, it combines melody reminiscent of sunny spring afternoon in North Denbighshire with a revolutionary fervour rarely found in songs about ironing boards (Side 1, Track 2). Work is well underway on its follow-up, which is due in early 2026!
GINTIS
Gintis needs no introduction to those who are familiar with Future Yard – a sleeping giant of North Walian wonky psych pop, you could be forgiven for thinking the Abergele Goliath had slipped into a coma until recently. Signs of life came with singles Dennis, O My Little Malcontent and Four Movements – all of which gained BBC radio play and sparked excitement among the band’s loyal following of devotees. But a decade had passed without a long player collection of their sentimental songs for sentimental people.
Hope Is All We Have signalled the end of a long wait. Recorded and produced by Bill Ryder-Jones in his West Kirby studio. Ryder-Jones has nurtured the band’s charming eccentricities while harnessing the emotional triumphs of songs which were completed amidst tragedy for several members of the band. With help from Ryder-Jones and record label Mai68, Hope Is All We Have was finally released, and it was worth every second of the wait.
While abstract tales of museum exhibits and opportunist mystics provide listeners the opportunity to unpick tantalisingly oblique lyrics, Gintis’s melodies will buoy the heaviest of hearts. The songs on Hope Is All We Have are stars in a constellation of heartbreak, unbreakable bonds and unabashed romance. It’s smelling salts for the soul.
MOTEL SUNDOWN
With a sound reminiscent of soft-rock bands of the 60s & 70s, Motel Sundown draw listeners with their blend of heartfelt lyrics over luscious three part harmonies.
The three friends began writing together in 2018 after discovering mutual influences, releasing their debut album If You Were Listening in 2022. The Liverpool based trio have since supported The Hanging Stars, Ashley Campbell, The Chapin Sisters and more recently, US Grammy nominated artist Courtney Marie Andrews, with two UK tours under their belt.
2024 saw the release of the debut EP El Dorado, (“vividly nostalgic songs that envelop and intrigue you” – Boot Music) coinciding with sold out shows at the Music Room, Liverpool and Green Note, Camden. Gaining momentum, the band made their second appearance at Black Deer festival, before sharing a line-up with The Jacksons at Liverpool Pier Head, closing the year with a 9-date UK and Ireland tour.
A majority of 2025 has seen Motel Sundown flourish in the studio with releases from their second EP scheduled into next spring following singles Echoes and Colours in the Rain (“a track that feels at once nostalgic and refreshingly current” – Liverpool Noise).
HOLY GLOAM
Holy Gloam are a 4 piece alt rock/shoegaze band from North Wales/NW England. Formed by songwriter Julian Neale in 2021, the band played a smattering of live shows around the Chester/Wrexham area in the first half of 2022 leading up to the release of Welsh Music Prize longlisted debut album ‘Small Nothings’. More studio time in 2023 with Ben Dempsey Sawin (Mowbird/Eitha Da) led to 3 new songs, all released digitally between 2023/24. The previous single ‘Fall into Innocence’, and the upcoming single ‘Numberless/Nonetheless’ were produced by Bill Ryder-Jones’ at his Yawn studio in West Kirby, and feature as a double A side 7’’ which has been released by Shipwrecked Records of Liverpool.
WILLIAM WILLIAM RODGERS
Singer-singer-songwriter William William Rodgers writes “acutely aware, deeply felt songs” (The Quietus). He has recently put out his second album Pond Life, a densely textured collection of songs about birds, edgelands, missing persons, city skaters and more.
