We are looking to build our team of Artist Development Mentors to support our growing community of artists and bands in our Propeller Programme at our venue on Argyle Street, Birkenhead.

This is a unique opportunity to join the team at one of the UK’s most exciting new music venues. Since fully opening in the summer of 2021, we have played host to artists such as Gruff Rhys, OMD, Black Country New Road, Nubiyan Twist, Shame, Melt Yourself Down, Bodega and many more, with a programme encompassing the best in contemporary alternative, jazz, electronic and experimental music.

PROPELLER is Future Yard’s free to access artist development programme supporting artists and bands in our region to grow their projects creatively and professionally. The programme consists of workshops, masterclasses and mentor sessions to help support emerging talent and build on their potential. We also have a number of rehearsal studios that are frequently in use by a growing number of local musicians.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a number of mentors to join our team. Working alongside our Head of Skills and Development, to inspire and support our community of artists and bands, you will have a deep passion for the local music scene and be immersed and well connected within it. You will also have an understanding of the structure of the music industry and the challenges our local talent face in elevating their project and growing their audience.

Our team of mentors will be given the opportunity to grow their own knowledge and experience of the music industry and talent development, but will already be working in some capacity with developing artists and bands. They will be encouraging and positive voices that can support our artists and provide ideas for the growth of their projects and able to signpost opportunities and further assistance from within the programme and external partners, too.

Within this role there will be opportunities to further your knowledge of artist development and the music industry through regular training sessions, the masterclass programme of PROPELLER itself and other mentor-specific learning opportunities.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

You may be early in your music career and have other interests and projects alongside your role at Future Yard, or a more established freelancer and looking for further opportunities to compliment your existing work with musicians. We are keen to work with people who are active and immersed in the local music scene and can bring those connections, interests and passions to the role.

You will have a broad musical perspective and appreciation for a range of genres, reflecting the range of musical styles and perspectives that exist within the broader regional music scene. You’ll have a keen interest in how the music industry is developing and an understanding of how to build the early careers of artists and bands.

You will be at the heart of a small, passionate team working in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for those with excellent organisational skills, who can manage and prioritise their workload independently, while communicating clearly and effectively with the team, colleagues, artists and partners.

Future Yard is a non-profit, Community Interest Company. We have been established to utilise the power of music to bring about meaningful change in Birkenhead, running a range of training, artist development and community programmes alongside our live events. We are keen to work with people who share our vision of a dynamic community music venue and are driven to deliver excellence, every time we open our doors.

Future Yard is committed to providing a range of pathways for local young people to develop the skills needed to embark on careers within the live music industry. You will be passionate about passing on your skills to the next generation and embrace the culture of exchange and skill sharing on which Future Yard is built.

As a member of the Future Yard family you will benefit from a range of bonuses, including: free entry to all Future Yard shows, weekly staff yoga and mindfulness, training and social events, our cycle to work scheme, paid training, ongoing development opportunities and a brilliant range of staff discounts.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about the regional music scene and has:

  • Experience of supporting emerging artists and bands
  • An understanding of the structures of the music industry and an active researcher in the challenges and solutions for emerging talent, particularly those operating in our region
  • An intimate knowledge of the Liverpool music scene and be actively engaged in it
  • A broad musical perspective and appreciation for a range of genres
  • Great team working skills, flexibility and an appetite to continually develop
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive but realistic outlook
  • You will be a well organised, disciplined self-starter
