Skeleton Records Presents
ADJUSTED TIMINGS - WORLD CUP
Doors open early at 6:30pm, with the show finishing at 9:30pm ahead of the England v. Panema kick-off at 10:00pm. We’ll be screening the match in the Live Room, and all ticket holders are welcome to stay and enjoy the game at no extra charge.
Birkenhead-based punk/indie label Skeleton Records present Sharp-tongued Merseyside indie rock trio Modern Marriage for the launch of their debut album ‘Grim Up North.’
The album showcases the band’s signature blend of chimey, Rickenbacker-driven guitar pop and twisted, highly observational storytelling. The songwriting explores the weird, the wonderful and the mundanity of everyday life; from the petty-crime-noir of opener ‘Terry’s Last Fag,’ the misadventures of an octogenarian banjo player in ‘Gerry and His Pacemaker,’ and culminating with the Velvet Underground-meets-Crosby Stills and Nash epic You Can’t Send Yer Ma To Blackpool’ – the story of trying and failing to combine football away days with family holidays.
“Modern Marriage washed up one day on the tide in the Mersey estuary (somewhere close to Rock Ferry) and almost immediately started attracting attention as one of Merseyside’s most original and organically unpretentious bands, blending infectious melodies with the humour, grit and storytelling of their Northern roots. Formed in 2021, the bandmade their onstage debut at Liverpool’s legendary Cavern Club and have shared bills with Half Man Half Biscuit, Edgar Jones, Alan McGee and many more, building a reputation for high-energy sets packed with dry wit and crowd-pleasing charm.”
