CRAFT BEER + VINYL CULTURE
CRATE is a brand new celebration of craft beer and vinyl record culture here at Future Yard, and the independent, DIY spirit that unites them both. CRATE will take place regularly throughout the year, as three quarterly craft beer + music markets and an annual craft beer festival in the spring.
Independent record stores and independent brewers, record collectors and craft beer lovers; we are all essentially the same, celebrators of unique tastes, all shaped by a love and commitment to individual craft and the embodiment of DIY culture.
CRATE is here to celebrate and bring together these two worlds. To provide a haven for the mashers and the collectors, the acid-jazz seekers and the saison lovers, a moment to indulge, to ferment in the grooves.
CRATE Market #1: Saturday 27th November 2021
The first CRATE craft beer + music market brings together the worlds of vinyl obsessives and craft beer aficionados for a daytime fair that pulls together some of the best local record labels, vendors, brewers, printmakers and DJs in the North West. A Future Yard record stall will feature a packed selection of new and used vinyl masterpieces, studded with gems from favourite local labels Viper, Deltasonic, Mellowtone, Salvation Records, God Unknown + Society Of Losers. The stall will appear alongside selections from specialist vinyl record traders Dig Vinyl, Slipmat, Black Beacon Sound, Blast From The Past and Lark Lane Records, and smaller hostings from brilliant imprints Worried Songs and Mai 68.
Some of our favourite local brewers will also be in attendance – Carnival, Glen Affric, Chapter, Black Lodge, Beatnikz Republik + more – selling fresh new brews and popular favourites, with some exclusive beer tastings tasting place alongside. And the visual ephemera that surrounds this whole culture will also be represented, with some great poster and screenprint art from local designers + makers. Toucan Tango are embedded firmly in this world, producing some memorable gig and festival posters (including the one our Future Yard festival in 2019) alongside their own massively popular prints. They’ll be curating a stall of some of their favourite music prints for the Market, featuring work from international artists alongside homegrown designers.
The Market will run from 11am and is free entry. There will be DJs on throughout the day as the Market takes over the bar, side room and live room here at Future Yard, with beer tastings taking place at various points throughout the day. In the evening the Live Room reverts back to normal operation for a live afterparty, a gig featuring buzzing South Wales trio The Bug Club and their infectious garage riffing. Imagine Jonathan Richman bought a really big amp and a time machine and found himself somewhere on the Nuggets compilation. The Bug Club will be supported by local noiseniks Euan Blackman and Sean At The Hotel, and the show will be ticketed (entry just £6), with doors opening at 7pm.
CRATE Market will take place every three months as we continue to celebrate the the unique qualities of music obsessives and beer lovers and the things that draw them both together. In the spring we will launch our first annual CRATE Craft Beer Festival, which will be a weekend gathering of great North West breweries across two halls, with music and conversations weaving all the way through. Expect a slew of guest beers across dozens of bars, meet the brewer sessions, demos and a full programme of conversations to delve further into the culture of independent brewing and DIY record labels. Ticket for the first CRATE beer festival will go on sale in the new year.
