Borough Road Shuffle: Tranmere Trust Fundraiser | Future Yard Borough Road Shuffle: Tranmere Trust Fundraiser | Future Yard

An Evening With TRFC Legends Clint Hill, Gareth Roberts + Joe Murphy

Tranmere legends Clint Hill, Gareth Roberts and Joe Murphy join us for an evening conversation about their careers and experiences playing at Prenton Park, in a new series of Borough Road Shuffle events. The night also features a live performance from Marmalite, and a book talk from writer Alex Timperley.

Between them, Clint Hill, Gareth Roberts and Joe Murphy amassed over 520 appearances for Tranmere, predominantly in an era that saw Rovers punching above their weight, knocking on the door of the Premier League and pulling off memorable cup upsets. The trio will be sharing some of their memories from these days, and reflecting on how they’ve seen the game change since their playing days – Clint from his perspective as a coach, Gareth from his view on co-comms duty from the back of the Borough Road stand, and Joe only just recently retired from playing duties, ending a connection with the club this summer that also involved goalkeeper coach duties.

Music on the night comes from irreverent post-punk act Marmalite (FFO Devo, Wire, The Fall), Tranmere season ticket holders and continuers of the HMHB tradition of spinning Wirral life into their music.

Alex Timperley – writer and co-founder of Man City Fans Foodbank Support – will also be on hand to talk about his new book For The Love: How Football Supporters Can Change The World, interviewed by Darren Bernstein from the Football Supporters Association. The current situation facing Manchester City, and its impact on their fanbase, will likely be an additional topic on Alex’s agenda.

This event takes place after Tranmere’s home league game vs Swindon on Saturday 9th January 2027. Doors will open at 6pm, allowing fans to get to Future Yard after the game finishes. See full event timings below.

The Borough Road Shuffle

More than a decade after it was last held, the Tranmere Trust and Future Yard are are delighted to bring back the Borough Road Shuffle. We’ll be bringing the SWA together a regular moments during the year for a night of conversation and live music, to celebrate everything that makes our local community special.

At its heart, the Borough Road Shuffle is about bringing Tranmere fans together. Whether you’ve supported the club for decades or only recently found your way to Prenton Park, this is a chance to celebrate the vibrant community that exists around our club and our deep links with Birkenhead’s music and creative culture.

The original Borough Road Shuffle held back in 2012 – when Rovers sat top of League One – featured performances by The Loud, Oxygen Thieves and By The Sea, with Bill Ryder-Jones on DJ duties.

The Trust believes football is at its strongest when supporters come together. The stronger our community, the stronger our collective voice, and the more we can achieve for the future of Tranmere Rovers. By coming along, you’ll not only be part of a fantastic event — you’ll also be supporting the work of the Trust and helping us continue to represent fans throughout the year.
