NYJO’S OCTOBER HOLIDAY PROJECT
NYJO Under 18s: Autumn Liverpool Collective
For young people aged 13 – 18 who are Grades 3 and above on their instrument (including vocalists) and are interested in exploring jazz, ensemble playing, and improvisation.
Led by NYJO Lead Educator Fergus Quill, these sessions will focus on ensemble playing, music reading and improvisation. The Collective will play music from the whole history of jazz, and is for young people with experience on their instrument but who might want to improve their confidence in improvising/performing or want to learn more about how jazz music is made.
Fergus leads Fergus Quill’s Imaginary Big Band, an organic and fluid ensemble of young jazz musicians drawn from across the Leeds jazz scene. The band’s origins were as an informal five-piece Sun Ra tribute project but quickly grew into a dynamic 25+ strong musical force with a reputation for energetic live performances, experimental arrangements and performing original improvised music. A part of their sound owes itself to the works of Duke Ellington, Sun Ra Arkestra and the Mingus Big Band, but the DIY Punk aesthetic and ethos of the band is also integral to their sound.
Fees to take part in the project are:
1. Free if you are in receipt of Pupil Premium/Free School Meals/from a low-income family in receipt of any form of benefit.
2. £40 for all other young people.
Please don’t let the cost be a barrier to you coming – we will do our best to reduce the cost for anyone who needs it so please just get in touch

VENUE INFO
Future Yard is open every day from 10am – so you can stop by for a coffee or a pre-show drink in our bar area whenever you like. Our pizza kitchen is open on weekends and before every gig, 5-9pm.
The live room doors open at 12:00pm on both days.
