TURN UP THE VOLUME: BEYOND THE PILOT
Beyond The Pilot
Building on the success of our pilot year, Turn Up The Volume is evolving into a fully structured, whole-school music journey. We are creating a clear, progressive pathway from Year 1 to Year 6 that connects classroom learning with live music, creative practice and the wider music industry. This next phase ensures that every pupil builds their musical skills step by step over time, supported by meaningful experiences that bring music to life beyond the classroom.
At Future Yard, we are supporting schools to respond to a changing educational landscape, offering music education that goes beyond the classroom, putting creativity, belonging and real-world experiences at the centre of learning.
As schools are encouraged to think more broadly about engagement and inclusion, we’re helping pupils connect with music in meaningful ways through live experiences, creative opportunities and industry-informed learning. Our programmes build confidence, celebrate both individuality and community while creating clear pathways for progression, helping young people see where music and creativity can take them across the wider music, live events and creative industries.
Experiences
Live enrichment is the core offer of Turn Up The Volume. Without these, a curriculum cannot thrive, with engagement being difficult to sustain. As Wirral’s primary Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation, alongside support from our Music Hub and other partners, we will continue to subsidise the following for every school:
- Live music band assemblies
- Interactive live music experience days with professional musicians
- Exciting careers-based school trip to Future Yard’s real working music venue
- Performance opportunities
- Opportunities to engage with real events and creative projects
- Access to professional, high-quality musical instruments
- Access to our Band Clubs and instrumental tuition
- In-person + online teacher training and continued support
All of these experiences will continue to evolve, ensuring that they ignite curiosity, passion, energy and a love for both music and school-life in all children!
Combining these inclusive and relatable enrichment experiences with our growing modern curriculum offer (free-to-access for all school partners) has proven to be a powerful catalyst for engagement, building confidence and empowering young people from all backgrounds to exceed expectations. Together, they help create a more vibrant, connected and aspirational school culture where pupils feel inspired to participate, achieve and thrive.
CURRICULUM: What Happens Next?
Year 1 established the foundations.
Year 2 introduces progression.
Year 3 completes the vision.
Over the next year, Turn Up The Volume evolves into a fully developed whole-school music curriculum, combining classroom learning, live music experiences, industry engagement and creative opportunities that schools cannot easily access alone.
How The Progression Works
YEAR ONE (PILOT):
All participating pupils engaged with the programme for the first time, building core musical skills, confidence and understanding.
YEAR TWO (2026-27):
Pupils who took part in Year 1 progress onto new pathways that build on prior learning. New cohorts entering the programme begin the original pathways, ensuring every pupil develops the foundations needed for future progression.
YEAR THREE (2027-28):
The full progression model will be fully in place, providing a clear and structured curriculum journey from Year group to Year group. Every year group has a dedicated pathway that builds carefully on previous learning, ensuring pupils steadily develop their musical knowledge, skills and confidence over time. This creates a consistent, school-wide approach to progression, while maintaining the creativity, energy and real-world relevance that comes from working with Future Yard.
What Can You Expect?
By the end of Year One (pilot), schools will have access to:
- Full Year 1-6 curriculum overview (ahead of full implementation in Year Three)
- National Curriculum mapping
- Progression pathways and skills ladders
- Curriculum intent, implementation and impact guidance
- Full set of lesson resources and supporting materials from the pilot year
- Access to at least the first term’s lesson resources and supporting materials for the following year

Giving schools confidence in both delivery and curriculum planning.
